Section Chair Letter
ASQ0904
September 9, 2006

Letter from the Chair:

There have been some unforeseen changes in our Section’s leadership organizational structure. Steve Scott, who was voted in as this years new Chair, has had to resign his position due to personal reasons beyond his control. This is an unfortunate situation as Steve Scott has long been a valued contributing volunteer to our section. Over his years of service, Steve Scott has performed many duties on the leadership committee including, but not limited to Secretary, Treasure, Scholarship, Chair Elect and more. His contributions and his presence will be missed by all. On behalf of the section leadership volunteer committee, I extend our thanks and best wishes to Steve Scott.

In light of this event, as Chair elect I volunteered to fill the position one year early. This was voted on and approved by the leadership committee. I look forward to the challenge. With the help and support of the leadership committee volunteers, we will be able to provide to our section a great program year. Look forward to hearing great speakers, great topics and, as always, great give a ways (books, gifts, etc.). Most important is the ability to network with other professionals from all the various disciplines in quality; leadership, management, engineering, technicians, and others.

Sticking to recent tradition from last year, we have attained a speaker from Parkview Hospital in Ft. Wayne who is heavily involved in their quality program. September is recognized as Quality in Health month, and Michele Hill, will be our main topic presenter on September 20th. I hope everyone will plan to attend this event as it will provide an opportunity to hear from the service sector that provides health care. This topic allows us to learn a little more about the ongoing quality efforts in the medical field.

With the continued loss of manufacturing jobs and the ever-growing population of the service sector, it is important to learn as much as possible about quality in service. We never know when opportunities may present themselves and we may find it a necessity to move from manufacturing to the service sector. Therefore, I encourage all of you to be here for this first meeting.

"Gotta Have Pre-Clinics" is what we are offering this year. The leadership committee identified through the member feedback forms that Six-Sigma is still a hot topic amongst our members. Therefore, our monthly Pre-Clinics will focus on Six-Sigma. The first five planned Pre-Clinics will delve into a breakdown overview of DMAIC (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, and Control). So do what you can to attend each and every one, you don’t want to miss this opportunity. Bring a friend!

I would also like to take this time to extend an invitation to our members who have thought that they may like to get involved in ensuring our Section is on target towards the Vision. Come experience the leadership committee meeting. We currently meet on the 4th Thursday of the month.

In closing, I encourage you all to visit our web site (http://www. asq904.org) or HQ's (http://www.asq.org/) There is good information about the upcoming programs and events. Last but not least, a word of thanks to the Management and Team Members of the Sirloin Stockade for providing to us a place to gather.

See you at the September Dinner Meeting, Wednesday the 20th. The Pre-Clinic is at 6 PM and the main speaker follows dinner at 7:30 PM.
