May 2002 Membership Meeting Wednesday, May 15, 2002
About the Program: Do you want a presentation from a different perspective regarding problem solving? Then this meeting is for you. Our guest speaker (Bob Funk, a Reliability Engineer from Caterpillar) will provide a thought-provoking look at problem solving. His talk will include a basic overview of problem solving methods, but also several "twists" of traditional methods, some problem solving methods we use at home (but don’t at work but should), ways to harness today’s computer power for problem solving, some unique ideas of his own, and it ends with collecting "unique" ideas from the audience. He has presented a similar talk to the ASQ Chapters in Lafayette, Indiana and Kenosha, Wisconsin, and always enjoys the new ideas shared by all. Come by for this unique opportunity to learn some new ideas on problem solving and share some of your own. About our Speaker: Bob Funk is a Reliability Engineer with Caterpillar, with 19 years of experience in Quality and Reliability. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Michigan-Dearborn, and is a Certified Quality Engineer (CQE), Certified Reliability Engineer (CRE), and Certified Quality Manager (CQM). Bob has been an active member of ASQ and the Society of Reliability Engineers (SRE) for many years. He has provided past presentations to ASQ and SRE chapters on "Out of the Box" Problem Solving and Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), and reliability methods. Bob is happily married with one daughter.
Post-Meeting Follow-up: Twenty-one Quality Professionals passed up the best opportunity to cut grass (or play golf) in weeks to hear Bob Funk give a very interesting talk about non-traditional methods of solving problems. Steve Scott won the Six-Sigma Handbook donated by Quality America Publishing. Chuck McPherson and Mike Devine were also doorprize winners. Carl Myers won the free meal. Duane Buckenroth's name was drawn for the $100 jackpot. Duane has attended most of the meetings this year but unfortunately not tonight. You must attend to win. The next meeting will be in September. Have a quality summer.
