January 2006 Membership Meeting Wednesday, January 18, 2006
About the Program: Richard Johnson, Quality Manager GM Marion Plant, will be presenting on the GM's Global Manufacturing System. Mr. Johnson's talk will focus on one of the GMS five Principals, "Built in Quality". About our Speaker: Pre-Clinic: Mr. Johnson will give an overview of GM-GMS and explain Calibration Chair Chat - by Steve Zylka - January 2006 Jan. 6, 2006 Well it is the start of a new year. I hope this finds you only a little poorer in your pocketbook, but much richer in spirit. The thrust of this message will go from the sublime to the ridiculous. Your job will be to figure out which is which. Here are things I found out during my first 6 months as Chair which I will pass on because they might be of interest to you, also: Our section was recognized by ASQC (American Society for Quality Control), the precursor of ASQ, in May of 1949. (Yes, we will be 57 years old this May) Our section has an operating agreement which was kept at HQ. (It is now on our sharepoint web site.) We have a slate of candidates for the 2006-2007 section officers, which I think is a very strong group. (If you want to know who they are, go to our section’s web site.) Some members do not know that our section has a web site (It is http://www.asq904.org/.) We make a little extra money for the section by recycling used toner and printer cartridges. The company we use has stopped taking the toner cartridges. (If you know of anywhere to recycle these, let Rhonda Goss know.) Each year, our section receives less and less money from HQ. While we are far from broke, to maintain our solvency, we need to arrange some money making activities. (Any ideas will be greatly appreciated.) We had to cancel the tour of Spartech, which had been scheduled for December, for this I personally apologize. (It was not because of inclement weather, but a misunderstanding.) We will try and reschedule another tour. Feedback from our members (that is you) showed a desire for Roger Hirt to return and brings us more info on Fort Wayne’s Six Sigma efforts. I am happy to announce, that he is willing to return. (You didn’t scare him away.) Keep watching the web site for the tentative date. Remember, this is not my section, it is your (or our section) so if you have and ideas to make us better let one of the LC (board) members know about it. If you have other topics or speakers that you are interested in hearing, please call this to the attention of Steve Harmeyer (or myself). It is said that Quality is a journey and I hope your journey goes well (I wanted my journey to be in a BMW, but I haven’t made it yet). Steve Zylka
Post-Meeting Follow-up: Twenty Quality Professionals attended our January meeting to hear Richard Johnson speak on GM-GMS. Randy Hartman and Jeff Mann won the Door
Prizes.
